It's right in my bio on the homepage, but French fries are my weakness. If I order them, I have to eat them all, which is why I rarely get them. I went to brunch not too long ago with my girl friends and came straight from a workout, so I decided to treat myself to French fries. I finished all of them and proceeded to eat some of one of my girl friend's as well. I simply can't resist. That's when you know they're true friends - they share their French fries with you even though you have your own entire serving and don't judge you :). These parsnip fries are a great, healthy alternative and I can make them whenever I want. These are baked and not fried, so they don't taste exactly like your typical French fries, as the consistency is a bit different, but the flavor is definitely there.
I had been telling my younger sister about these cool air fryers that fry food with just air and almost no oil and how I want one, but can't justify getting one since they're not cheap and it's probably one of those things I'd use twice a year. Then for HER graduation, she got ME a gift! She bought me an "As seen on TV" air fryer that's basically a basket on top of a baking sheet that goes in the oven. I have to say it doesn't really fry them, but it did evenly bake everything, so it's not a total fail. Maybe the air fryer will go on sale for cheap on Black Friday or Cyber Monday and I'll splurge.. who knows ;).
Five Guy's cajun french fries are probably some of my favorite french fries. These parsnip fries use a homemade cajun seasoning that's super easy. If you don't already have all of the seasonings in your pantry, and don't want to buy all of them, a great option is shopping at a health store food like Sprouts and buying just a little bit in bulk. I almost always buy my seasonings in bulk and simply refill my seasoning jars. It's great because I can get a little of the ones I don't use as much like cayenne or cloves and a lot of the ones I do, like cumin and garlic powder. You're more likely to have fresh seasonings this way, too!

Ingredients (serves 2):
2 large parsnips, peeled
1 tablespoons oil of choice
1/2 tablespoon cajun seasoning (recipe below)
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp sea salt
2 1/2 tsp paprika
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp cayenne
1 tsp onion powder
1 1/4 tsp dried oregano
1 1/4 tsp dried thyme
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- Preheat oven to 450°F
- Slice parsnips in half lengthwise and then slice into 1/4'' strips.
- If the parsnips are very large, cut the strips in half
